10 Weeks Pregnant | The End of the Longest Stretch
Share
Baby is now roughly the size of a strawberry, and every organ they will be born with has already formed.
What is happening this week
Your baby is about 3cm long and has stopped being an embryo — from this week they are officially a fetus. The tail has gone. Fingers and toes have separated. Tiny nails are starting to form, and the bones are beginning to harden.
Most remarkably, all the essential organs are now in place. The rest of the pregnancy is largely about growing and maturing what already exists.
How you might be feeling
Week ten is often the peak of the hardest part. Nausea, exhaustion and the strange, heavy tiredness of the first trimester tend to be at their loudest around now — and you may still be keeping it all to yourself.
The waistband of your jeans has probably started to argue with you, even though you don't look pregnant yet. That in-between stage is genuinely uncomfortable, and nobody warns you about it.
Worth writing down
Ten weeks is a good moment to record what nobody else can see. What you have told and who you haven't. What you are frightened of. The odd food you cannot face and the one you cannot stop eating.
You will not remember this stretch clearly. The first trimester has a way of blurring, and the details that feel unbearably vivid now are exactly the ones that go first.
Our Pregnancy Journal — Made With Love has a page for every week to forty, so there is somewhere for this to go. It pairs with Your First Years for afterwards, or take both together. If you are buying for someone else, the Pregnancy to Baby Keepsake Gift Set covers the whole journey.
