37 Weeks Pregnant | Early Term

Baby is around the size of a cos lettuce, and from this week they are considered early term.

What is happening this week

Your baby is roughly 48cm and about 2.9 kilograms. The lungs and brain are still maturing and will keep doing so right up to birth — which is why the last few weeks matter even though the baby would very likely be fine if they arrived now.

Many babies move into a head-down position around this point, if they have not already.

How you might be feeling

Uncomfortable, most likely, and quite over it. Pelvic pressure increases as the baby drops, which relieves the heartburn and makes walking considerably worse.

The waiting is its own thing. Everyone is asking. Nothing is happening. It is a strange, suspended stretch.

Worth writing down

This is the last window where you can record what it felt like to be pregnant and not yet a parent to this particular person. Once they arrive, the memory of these weeks compresses very fast.

Our Pregnancy Journal — Made With Love has a page for every week to forty, so there is somewhere for this to go. It pairs with Your First Years for afterwards, or take both together. If you are buying for someone else, the Pregnancy to Baby Keepsake Gift Set covers the whole journey.
