41 Weeks Pregnant | Overdue and Still Waiting

Baby is fully grown, your due date has passed, and you are almost certainly being asked about it hourly.

What is happening this week

Your baby is around 51cm and about 3.6 kilograms. Everything is finished. They are simply waiting, and so are you.

Around one in twenty pregnancies reaches 42 weeks. Your midwife or obstetrician will usually discuss monitoring and induction options at this point.

How you might be feeling

Forty-one weeks is a specific kind of hard. The date has gone. Everyone assumed you would have had the baby by now, and every message asking if there is news lands slightly heavier than the last.

Frustration, boredom and anxiety in the same afternoon is completely normal.

Worth writing down

Nobody writes anything at forty-one weeks, which is exactly why it is worth doing. It is the least documented week of most pregnancies and one of the most emotionally distinct.

A few honest lines now will read very differently to you in five years.
